I had to consult a plastic surgeon from South Korea three times before I finally understood why the prices for eye repair procedures could vary so greatly, ranging from 3 million to 12 million.

  • FAQ: Common questions regarding the costs of Donna’s plastic eye surgery and repair services

Before deciding to go to Seoul for eye restoration surgery, I consulted Donna Plastic Surgery three times, and the quotes I received were different each time. During the first consultation, the consultant told me the cost would be 3.7 million Korean won; during the second consultation, another consultant gave me a quote of 5.8 million Korean won; and during the third consultation, after meeting with the attending physician in person, the cost increased to 8.2 million Korean won.

I almost thought I was being overcharged, but after talking with friends who had undergone eye repair procedures, I realized that the quotes given each time were actually reasonable. The differences in costs were simply due to the varying details of each consultation. This article summarizes my experiences from three consultations and clearly explains the cost structure behind Donna Plastic Surgery’s eye repair quotes, so you can have a better understanding before going for a consultation.

South Korea's Donna Plastic Surgery

Why is it that, despite asking three times, the quotes for eye repair services provided by South Korea’s Donna Plastic Surgery are all different?

During my first consultation, I simply said, “The widths of my Double eyelid surgery results are a bit different; I would like to make some adjustments.” After evaluating the situation, the consultant determined that it was a minor case of revision and quoted a fee of 700,000 Korean won. For my second consultation, I brought along photos before and after the surgery. The consultant noticed that in addition to the width issue, there was also slight Scar tissue formation and damage to the levator palpebrae superioris muscle. As a result, the assessment was upgraded to a moderate case of revision, and the fee increased to 5.8 million Korean won.

During the third in-person consultation with the doctor, he carefully assessed the situation and said that the issues that needed to be addressed were more complex than I had imagined. Additionally, since I had already undergone one previous repair procedure, the scar tissue had already affected the elasticity of my eyelids. This time, it would be necessary to treat the levator muscles, repair the scars, and re-design the facial contours at the same time. As a result, the total cost amounted to 200,000 Korean won.

None of these three quotes were examples of “unfair price increases”; the differences were entirely due to varying diagnostic results. The consultants and doctors at Donna Plastic Surgery used the same evaluation criteria. However, the more thorough the in-person examination, the more issues were identified, and accordingly, the more accurate the estimated costs became. This made me realize that the quotation for eye repair is essentially a “pricing based on the complexity of the issue”.

Donna Plastic Surgery

The first key factor affecting the cost of Donna’s plastic eye surgery and repair: the number of repairs determines everything.

In the cost structure of Donna Plastic Surgery, the most significant single factor that affects the total cost is “how many times this repair procedure is being performed”.

The cost for the first revision (that is, when the results are not satisfactory and a first adjustment is needed) usually ranges from 3.5 million to 6 million Korean won, which is considered a relatively reasonable range. However, for subsequent revisions, the cost immediately increases to between 6 million and 12 million Korean won, because the scar tissue left from the previous two surgeries makes the procedures much more difficult.

Behind this is a very practical medical rationale: every time the eyelid tissue undergoes surgery, fibrosis occurs, which is commonly referred to as “scarring”. The more severe the scarring, the more time surgeons need to carefully separate the tissues and restore the function of the levator muscles during the repair process. As a result, the operation time may extend from 1.5 hours to over 3 hours.

Donna Plastic Surgery’s pricing model directly reflects this difficulty factor in the cost; therefore, the cost of a second revision is 1.5 to 2 times that of the initial procedure, which is considered a normal standard within the industry.

According to the overall trends in South Korea’s plastic surgery market in 2026, the cost for a first-time Double eyelid surgery ranges from 3.5 million to 6 million South Korean won, while for more complex cases involving scar treatment, the cost is between 6 million and 8.5 million South Korean won. For extremely difficult cases that require multiple surgeries or involve muscle repair, the cost exceeds 10 million to 12 million South Korean won. Donna Plastic Surgery’s pricing falls perfectly within this range, without any excessive markups.

The choice of anesthesia method and the post-operative package result in a difference of 500,000 Korean won in the cost of eye restoration procedures.

One cost difference that many people overlook is the method of anesthesia. Donna Plastic Surgery offers two options for eye Revision Surgery: local anesthesia or general anesthesia with sleep induction, with the price difference ranging from 40.5 million won to 600,000 won.

For less complex initial repairs, local anesthesia is more than sufficient, and it also allows the surgeon to check the symmetry of both eyes during the procedure. However, for more complex secondary repairs or subsequent procedures, many surgeons recommend using general anesthesia to reduce involuntary muscle tension in the patient, which can help improve the accuracy of the surgery.

Another factor that affects the final cost is the post-operative package. The basic post-operative care provided by Donna Plastic Surgery is usually included in the surgery fee, but advanced treatments such as “scar laser therapy” and “swelling reduction care” are charged separately, with each session costing around 200,000 to 300,000 Korean won. It is recommended to undergo 2 to 3 sessions, which adds an additional cost of 400,000 to 900,000 Korean won. If you do not clarify these details during the consultation, you may be surprised when you receive the final bill.

Comparison of eye restoration costs in South Korea: Donna Plastic Surgery vs SEMI SEMI vs ID Plastic Surgery – whose quotes are more reasonable?

After receiving consultation regarding the Dona plastic surgery procedure, I also visited two plastic surgery clinics that are often compared with each other – SEMI and ID Plastic Surgery – to inquire about similar case scenarios (first-time revision, mild asymmetry, minor scarring). The quotation structures of these three clinics are as follows:

Project Donna Plastic Surgery SEMI SEMI ID plastic surgery
First repair (mild case) 3.5 million to 5.5 million ₩ 4 million to 6 million ₩ 3 million to 5 million ₩
Moderate restoration (including scar treatment) 6 million to 8.5 million ₩ 6.5 million to 9 million ₩ 5 million to 7.5 million ₩
Highly complex restorations (requiring more than two interventions) 10 million to 12 million ⩺ 10 million to 13 million ₩ 9 million to 11 million ₩
Postoperative scar laser treatment (per session) 200,000 to 300,000 ⩽ Additional cost From 250,000 to 350,000 ⩽ Additionally Included in the package
Surcharge for sleep-induced intoxication 400,000 to 600,000 ₩ 500,000 to 700,000 ⩺ 400,000 to 550,000 ₩

Numerically speaking, the basic quote for ID plastic surgery is the lowest. However, the price for ID surgery usually does not include post-operative care, so the actual cost is not much different from that of the other two options. The pricing of Donna Plastic Surgery and SEMI is relatively similar, but Donna’s consultation service has a better reputation in the industry. Doctors at Donna take more time to explain the repair plans to patients, which is particularly important for those who need more complex procedures.

The real reason why I decided to choose Donna Plastic Surgery after consulting three different options was…

Cost was not the main reason why I chose Donna Plastic Surgery in the end, as the difference in final prices among the three options was actually minimal. What really convinced me was the difference in the consultation experience provided by each clinic.

During the consultation at Donna Plastic Surgery, the attending physician spent 40 minutes explaining my eyelid condition to me – including what problems remained from the previous surgery, how many layers of issues needed to be addressed this time, the expected recovery time, and whether there would be a possibility for further corrections if the results were not perfect. This level of transparency made me feel that I was treated as a patient who deserved serious attention, rather than just a customer coming there to generate traffic.

Another detail that reassured me was that after confirming the surgical plan, the consultant at Donna Plastic Surgery took the initiative to prepare a detailed cost breakdown for me, listing separately the surgery fee, anesthesia cost, and post-operative care expenses, rather than just providing me with a total amount. In fact, this type of detailed quotation is not commonly practiced in South Korea’s plastic surgery clinics; the other two places I consulted only gave me a single “total price”.

For those considering eye repair treatments in South Korea: how to understand quotation sheets and avoid overcharging traps

Based on my experience from three consultations, I have compiled the following “essential questions to ask before considering eye repair treatments” – these will help you take the initiative right from the beginning of the conversation:

  • Does the quoted price include the cost of anesthesia? Some clinics do not include this fee in their quotes; adding it can result in a difference of anywhere from 400,000 to 700,000 Korean won.
  • Is the post-operative care fee charged separately? Are scar laser treatments and swelling reduction therapies included in the quote, or are they additional options to be purchased separately?
  • Is the attending physician the hospital director or a resident doctor? When the hospital director performs the surgery, a technical surcharge of 15% to 30% is usually applied; this should be confirmed during the consultation process.
  • If the results are not satisfactory, is there a free repair guarantee? Some clinics offer free adjustments within 6 months; this policy should be clearly stated during the quotation process.
  • Should the details of the costs be listed separately or should there be just a total amount? It is necessary to request that the other party provide a detailed breakdown of the costs, rather than just a single total figure.

By asking these questions, you can basically avoid 90% of cost-related disputes. South Korea’s plastic surgery industry indeed boasts high medical standards, but the transparency of information provided during the consultation phase varies greatly. By using this list of questions as a guide during your consultations, you will be able to effectively identify truly responsible clinics.

FAQ: Common questions regarding the costs of Donna’s plastic eye surgery and repair services

Q1: Can the cost of Donna’s plastic eye surgery be refunded through tax deductions?

In South Korea, the cost of plastic surgery is considered a medical service and is generally not included in the scope of tax-free benefits for tourists. However, if you also purchase medical-related products, such as post-surgery skincare products, you may be eligible to claim a tax refund for some of these items. It is recommended that you inquire directly with the clinic at the time of checkout.

Q2: Does Donna Plastic Surgery offer installment payments?

Donna Plastic Surgery accepts credit card payments. Some credit cards from Taiwan and Hong Kong support overseas installment payments; it is recommended to check in advance whether your credit card offers this feature. While the clinic itself does not offer installment plans, it does accept a variety of major international credit cards.

Q3: How much is the difference between the cost of eye repair procedures and the initial cost of eye surgery?

The cost of Revision Surgery is usually 2 to 3 times that of a initial procedure of the same type. Taking Double eyelid surgery as an example, the initial procedure in South Korea costs between 2.5 million and 5 million Korean won, while the initial Revision Surgery starts from 3.5 million to 6 million Korean won, and more complex cases can cost over 6 million to 12 million Korean won. The main reason for this is that Revision Surgery requires dealing with the scar tissue left from the previous procedure, making it take longer and be more difficult to perform.

Q4: If I fly from Taiwan to Seoul for eye repair surgery, what would be the total cost approximately?

Based on moderate restoration as a benchmark: the surgery costs between 6 million and 8.5 million Korean won (approximately NT$14,000 to 19,800); accommodation for 3 to 5 nights (at NT$1,500 to 3,000 per night); round-trip airfare costs around NT$8,000 to 12,000; post-surgery care expenses add another NT$3,000 to 5,000; and miscellaneous fees amount to NT$2,000 to 3,000. The total cost ranges approximately from NT$30,000 to NT$45,000, and this amount may vary depending on the complexity of the restoration and the choice of accommodation.
