  • In conclusion: Is a self-guided medical beauty trip to Busan really worth it? Here’s my honest opinion.

To be honest, when I first went to South Korea for cosmetic procedures, it wasn’t Seoul but Busan. I happened to get a cheap flight with Busan Air at that time, and since there are also Dermatology clinics in Busan, I decided to take the opportunity. But after going there, I found that instead of rushing to Seoul, it was much more comfortable to go to Busan for both my treatments and a vacation. In this article, I will share how to plan a self-guided cosmetic trip to Busan, covering everything from choosing the area, recommended clinics, price comparisons to itinerary arrangements. I’ll explain it all in detail.

Why choose Busan for medical aesthetics treatments? Five advantages compared to Seoul

When many people hear about going to South Korea for cosmetic procedures, the first place that comes to mind is Gangnam District in Seoul. However, in recent years, Busan has seen rapid development in the field of cosmetic medicine. Many clinics in Busan have equipment and technologies that are on par with those in Seoul, and they even possess advantages that Seoul does not have.

Firstly, the prices are more competitive. The cost of living and rent in Busan are lower than those in Seoul, and this is directly reflected in the prices of treatment services. Take Dermatology clinics in the Seomyeon area as an example: for the same Thermage FLX 600 treatment, the cost in Busan is approximately 10-15% lower than that in Gangnam, Seoul. Don’t underestimate this difference; if you undergo two or three treatments during your trip, the savings could be enough to cover the cost of an extra night in a hotel.

Secondly, making appointments is much easier. In Seoul, it is common to have to reserve a spot at a popular Dermatology clinic two or three weeks in advance, but in Busan, most clinics allow appointments to be scheduled within a week, offering much more flexibility. You can even fly to Busan first and then arrange an appointment for the next day, without having to worry about your travel schedule being too tight.

Thirdly, the service is more attentive. Since the footfall in Busan is not as high as that in Seoul, doctors at the clinics there usually have more time to communicate with patients. It’s not that quick-paced process of “coming in → getting the injection → leaving”; instead, they actually take the time to sit down and discuss your skin type and specific needs.

Fourth, a one-stop vacation experience. After completing the treatment, you can go straight to the seaside in Haeundae for a walk, enjoy the night view from Gwanganri Bridge, or stroll around Nampo-dong and taste local delicacies. Such a combined experience of “medical beauty treatments + vacation” is very difficult to replicate in Seoul.

Fifthly, the friendliness of locals towards foreigners in Busan is on par with that in Seoul. Nowadays, nearly all major Dermatology clinics in Busan offer Chinese translation services or English assistance, especially those in the areas of Seomyeon and Nampo-dong. Since there are many Taiwanese tourists in these areas, the staff providing these services have extensive experience.

Map of the three prime areas for medical aesthetics in Busan: Seomyeon, Haeundae, and Nampo-dong – how to choose?

In Busan, medical beauty clinics are mainly distributed in three areas, each with its own unique features. Choosing the right area can make your visit much more convenient.

Seomyeon: The commercial district with the highest concentration of medical beauty clinics. This is Busan’s most bustling business area, where Subway Lines 1 and 2 intersect, making transportation extremely convenient. The Dermatology clinics in the Seomyeon area are numerous, the competition is fierce, prices are transparent, and there are many options to choose from. Well-known clinics such as JRYN, Barog, Genius, Kim Yang-ji, Zhang Fengshuo, and DayBeau are all located here. If this is your first time visiting Busan for medical beauty treatments, Seomyeon is the safest choice – there are several clinics on the same street to compare, and after your consultation, you can also take the opportunity to shop around in the Seomyeon underground market.

Haeundae: High-end vacation-based medical beauty experiences. Haeundae is the affluent area of Busan, renowned for its ocean views. The Dermatology clinics in this area offer more luxurious and private services, making them ideal for travelers who want to enjoy their vacation while taking care of their appearance. For example, Onaby Dermatology is open until 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, and it’s perfect to take a walk by the sea after treatment; another great option is Busan The First Dermatology, which is located near Gyeongsung Station and boasts a strong team of four chief physicians. However, the fees at clinics in the Haeundae area are generally slightly higher than those in Seomyeon.

Nampo-dong: The perfect combination of shopping and medical aesthetics. Nampo-dong is located near Busan Port, BIFF Plaza, and Jagachi Market, making it one of the most familiar areas for tourists. The JRYN Nampo branch is right here; it’s just a few minutes’ walk from Nampo Station. After your treatment, you can head straight to Gwangbok-ro for shopping or enjoy some seafood. If your trip is primarily for sightseeing and medical aesthetics are just an “added bonus,” Nampo-dong is definitely the most convenient choice.

Suggestions for different travel purposes:
– If the main focus is medical aesthetics treatments, it is recommended to stay in Seomyeon.
– If you want to relax and enjoy your vacation, consider staying in Haeundae.
– If you plan to combine both sightseeing and medical treatments, Nampo-dong or Seomyeon would be suitable options.

5 Recommended Dermatology Clinics in the Busan Seomyeon Business District: These are the ones I have personally consulted and highly recommend.

The Seomyeon business district is considered a key area for medical beauty clinics in Busan. Here are 5 recommended clinics that have received the most discussions on platforms like Dcard and PTT and also offer Chinese-language services:

① Barog Dermatology – the most cost-effective option. Known by Dcard users as the “God of Efficiency,” this clinic operates around the clock with transparent pricing, making it perfect for travelers with tight schedules. Their Shurink Korean-style HIFU treatment is their flagship service, and its affordable price makes one wonder if there might be a missing zero in the figure. The clinic is located near Seomyeon Station, so you can go shopping right after your treatment – perfect convenience.

② JRYN Dermatology Seomyeon Branch – A large clinic equipped with the most advanced facilities. Covering an area of over 800 square meters and boasting more than 100 pieces of equipment, this branch is considered one of the best-equipped Dermatology clinics in Busan. It offers a wide range of treatments, from lasers and radiofrequency to injectable therapies, leaving customers with countless options to choose from. The clinic also provides Chinese translation services and allows guests to store their luggage, making it extremely convenient for travelers.

③ Kim Yang Ji Zhang Fengshuo Dermatology – A trusted and reliable choice with JCI international certification. This is the first medical aesthetics clinic in South Korea to receive JCI international medical accreditation, and it is led by a director with 40 years of experience. The clinic specializes in the Phoenix Radio Thermage FLX treatment and Rejuran injections, and it also employs staff from Taiwan, so you don’t have to worry about language barriers. Several reviews on PTT have praised the doctors for their natural aesthetic approach and their avoidance of aggressive sales tactics.

④ DayBeau Clinic Seomyeon Branch – A popular chain brand in South Korea. DayBeau is a well-known medical beauty chain brand in South Korea, with all its equipment certified by the FDA. The brand also ensures that the probes are used directly from the manufacturer’s packaging, so there is no need to worry about using counterfeit devices. Their main treatments are HIFU and hyaluronic acid injections, and their prices are quite competitive compared to other chain brands.

⑤ Genius Dermatology – 3D Liquid Lifting for Mature Skin. This clinic targets customers aged 30–45 with mature skin and specializes in the “3D Liquid Lifting” procedure, a non-surgical facial Lifting method that is said to offer results comparable to those of facelift surgery without the need for incisions. With Chinese-speaking staff available, the environment is designed to provide a premium experience, ideal for those seeking refined and sophisticated treatments.

Recommended Dermatology clinic in Busan Haeundae & Nampo-dong: It’s absolutely wonderful to be able to enjoy the sea or go shopping right after treatment!

If you find that Seomyeon is too crowded with people, Haeundae and Nampo-dong are great alternatives, each with its own unique character.

Recommended in Haeundae District:

• The First the first Dermatology: Led by a team of four specialist Dermatology doctors, this clinic specializes in eye Thermage treatments, Inmode lipolysis procedures, and treatments for sensitive skin. Located near Gyeongseong-da Station on Line 2 of the subway, the clinic has spacious facilities. Many South Korean netizens have praised Dr. Kim Hak-jun’s surgical-level precision in his treatments. If you are suffering from problematic skin issues such as acne, sensitivity, or scarred acne marks, this clinic’s restoration programs are definitely worth considering.

• Wannabe Dermatology: Its biggest advantage is that it is open until 9 p.m. on Tuesdays and Fridays, making it one of the latest-night clinics in all of Busan. After completing your treatment, you can take a walk along the Haeundae Beach, creating a perfectly comfortable schedule for the whole experience.

• Vands Sinsa Busan Branch: A Dermatology department affiliated with a general hospital, particularly renowned for its treatment of acne-prone skin and rosacea. The team of doctors, all holding medical doctor degrees, does not blindly promote phototherapy treatments; it is ideal for those who seek genuine solutions to their skin issues.

Recommendations for Nampo-dong District:

• JRYN Nampo Branch: Operating under the same brand as the Seomyeon branch, the Nampo branch is located near Jagachi Market and BIFF Plaza, making it extremely convenient for shopping. Specializing in the Phoenix Radio FLX device and Korean-style HIFU treatments, its prices are considered mid-to-high in Busan, but the service and environment are top-notch. Although their Chinese translation capabilities are slightly inferior to those of the Seomyeon branch, communication is still fully possible.

The clinic emphasizes a “healing experience,” offering massage during treatment sessions. In addition, free airport transfers are provided for customers who spend a certain amount, showing great consideration for foreign tourists.

Price comparison and equipment details of medical beauty clinics in Busan

Comparison of medical beauty prices in Busan: How much cheaper are they compared to Seoul, Taiwan, and Hong Kong?

This is probably the question that most people are interested in – just how much can one save by undergoing cosmetic procedures in Busan? I have compiled price comparisons for several popular treatments in three different regions, all based on the latest data from 2026:

Treatment options Busan prices (₩) Seoul prices (₩) Taiwanese prices (NT$) Hong Kong prices (HK$)
Thermage FLX 600 treatments ₩1,500,000 to 1,890,000 ₩1,800,000 to 2,200,000 NT$60,000 to 80,000 HK$15,000 to 20,000
300 HIFU treatments according to the Korean standard ₩300,000 to ₩500,000 ₩400,000 to 600,000 NT$15,000 to 25,000 HK$4,000 to HK$6,000
Hydrofiller injection (single session) ₩100,000 to 200,000 ₩150,000 to 250,000 NT$5,000 to 8,000 HK$1,200 to 2,000
Pico laser treatment for the entire face ₩200,000 to ₩350,000 ₩250,000 to ₩400,000 NT$8,000 to 12,000 HK$2,000 to 3,000
1 centum core of Filler ₩300,000 to ₩500,000 ₩350,000 to 600,000 NT$12,000 to 18,000 HK$3,000 to HK$4,500

Let’s do a simple calculation: if you fly from Taipei to Busan and undergo three treatments consisting of 600 sessions of Thermage FLX, 300 sessions of HIFU, and hyaluronic acid injections, the total cost in Busan would be approximately NT$48,000. In Taipei, the same treatment would cost at least NT$85,000. Even if you add the round-trip airfare of NT$5,000 and two nights’ accommodation for NT$4,000, you would still save nearly NT$28,000 — and on top of that, you get to enjoy Busan while you’re there.

Compared to Seoul, Busan is generally 10-15% cheaper, and accommodation and dining expenses are also lower. If you are still hesitating between going to Seoul or Busan and are considering your budget, choosing Busan will definitely not be a regret.

How to plan a 3-day/2-night self-guided medical beauty trip to Busan? My actual itinerary and tips.

Below is the detailed itinerary of my 3-day, 2-night medical beauty treatment experience, taking the area near Seomyeon as an example:

Day 1: Arrive at Gimhae International Airport in the afternoon → Take the light rail and transfer to the subway to Seomyeon (about 40 minutes) → Check into the hotel → In the evening, go to one of the clinics for consultation (either Barog or JRYN are within walking distance) → Finalize the treatment plan and schedule → In the evening, enjoy some barbecue in the Seomyeon shopping district.

Day 2: In the morning, go for the treatment (it is recommended to schedule it at the earliest possible time, when the clinic has fewer patients and the doctor is in the best mood). The treatment usually takes 1–2 hours. After that, return to the hotel for rest and apply ice packs. In the afternoon, depending on how you feel, if you had a treatment that doesn’t require any recovery time (such as hyaluronic acid injections), you can go for a walk along the Haeundae Beach; if you had a laser treatment that causes swelling, stay in the hotel instead. In the evening, visit the Gwanganri Bridge to enjoy the night view and taste some seafood.

Day 3: In the morning, proceed with the second treatment session or follow-up visit (if a follow-up is required after the previous day’s treatment). Then, go shopping in Nampo-dong at noon and enjoy seafood at Jagachi Market. In the afternoon, head to the airport and fly home.

Several important things to note:

① Booking: It is recommended to make reservations through the BeautsGO platform. This platform offers a Traditional Chinese interface and allows you to view the treatment options and prices of each clinic directly, so there’s no need to worry about communication issues. Most clinics will confirm your reservation within 24 hours.

② Language: Most clinics in Seomyeon and Nampo-dong provide Chinese translations, and some even employ Taiwanese staff (such as Kim Yang-ji Dermatology). However, it is still recommended to prepare several Korean keywords for emergencies.

③ Payment: Most clinics accept credit cards (Visa/Mastercard), and cash payments may sometimes come with discounts. Don’t forget to bring your passport, as it will be needed for tax refunds.

④ Recovery schedule: If you undergo treatments such as laser or radiofrequency procedures, it is recommended to schedule them on the second day of your trip, as you can rest immediately after the first day. For injectable treatments (such as hyaluronic acid injections), the recovery period is very short, so it is also fine to schedule them on the last day of your trip.

⑤ Tax Refund: Medical beauty treatments in South Korea are eligible for a VAT refund of 10%. Be sure to request the tax refund form at the clinic and proceed with the refund at the airport tax refund counter.

FAQs on Common Issues in Self-guided Medical Aesthetics Tours in Busan

Q1: Can I go to Busan for cosmetic procedures if I don’t know Korean?

A: Absolutely. Most of the Dermatology clinics in Seomyeon and Nampo-dong offer Chinese-speaking services or English assistance, and some even have Taiwanese staff. Additionally, the BeautsGO platform provides a Chinese reservation interface, so you can communicate entirely in Chinese throughout the entire process, from making an appointment to receiving treatment.

Q2: Is medical beauty treatment really cheaper in Busan than in Seoul?

A: Yes. Taking the Dermatology clinics in the Seomyeon area as an example, the cost of similar treatments is approximately 10-15% lower than in Gangnam, Seoul. Additionally, the accommodation and dining expenses in Busan are also lower, so the total cost is significantly reduced.

Q3: Which clinic in Busan attracts the most foreigners?

A: Jinyang Ji Zhang Fengshuo Dermatology has the highest proportion of Taiwanese customers due to its Taiwanese staff. Both JRYN (Seomyeon branch and Nampo branch) and Barog Dermatology also attract many foreign visitors, and their services in both Chinese and English are very proficient.

Q4: How long after the treatment can I fly?

A: For most non-surgical treatments (such as lasers, injections, or radiofrequency), you can fly the day after the procedure. However, if you undergo a treatment that requires a significant recovery period (for example, deep-sea laser therapy), it is recommended to take 1-2 days off for rest. It’s best to ask your doctor directly during the consultation.

Q5: Can tax refunds be obtained for consultations at Dermatology clinics in Busan?

A: Sure! Medical beauty treatments in South Korea are eligible for VAT refund (10%). Make sure to request a Tax Refund Receipt at the clinic and proceed with the refund at the airport tax refund counter before departing. Some clinics even offer on-site tax refunds.

Q6: How much in advance should I make a reservation?

A: It is generally recommended to make an appointment 3 to 7 days in advance. Popular clinics, such as JRYN and Jinyang Ji, tend to be very busy on weekends, so it’s advisable to book at least a week in advance. On weekdays, it’s usually easier to get a reservation; some clinics even accept appointments made the day before.

In conclusion: Is a self-guided medical beauty trip to Busan really worth it? Here’s my honest opinion.

If you are hesitating whether to travel to Busan for cosmetic procedures, my answer is: it’s definitely worth it. Not because it’s the cheapest option (although it certainly isn’t), but because Busan combines “cosmetic treatments” with “travel” in the most perfect way. You can undergo Thermage treatment in Seomyeon and then go to Haeundae in the afternoon to enjoy a cup of coffee while watching the sea; after getting hyaluronic acid injections in Nampo-dong, you can head straight to Jagachi to taste grilled eel. This kind of dual satisfaction – both improving your appearance and enjoying a vacation – is something that a routine treatment at a clinic followed by a direct home trip simply cannot compare to.

Moreover, the competition among clinics in Busan is extremely fierce, ensuring both high quality and reasonable prices. Coupled with the booking system provided by the BeautsGO platform, language no longer constitutes an obstacle, making the entire experience much smoother than it was a few years ago. If you are interested in trying South Korean cosmetic treatments but don’t want to deal with the crowds in Seoul, Busan is indeed an underrated great option.
